AH, summers!! The season you all have been waiting for since a long time.
If you are a feline parent and your cat have same outdoor passion as you, be careful of a few things that might be a red light for your cat. Having fun but with proper protection is always a plus point.
As summer is arriving, your cat would also want to run outside and enjoy the sun. Here are some safety measures to keep your cat safe in this summer season
1. Heat Strokes
Keeping your pet under a shady area in summers is essential. Heat strokes and dehydration is a deadly threat in cats. So, always keep her under a shade with a water bowl. Avoid taking your cat for a walk at the time when it’s too hot like between 12-4 pm.
2. Vehicle Dangers
You should be aware of the fact that leaving your pet inside a locked car, is deadly for them especially in summers. The temperature inside the car is more than the outside temperature and it increases at a rapid rate endangering your cat’s life.
Moreover, outdoor cats might see something attractive and run on the road, avoid any such accidents. Keep an eye on your cat.
3. Sidewalks
It’s an understood thing that in summers, the pavements and concrete become so hot that it burns if someone walks on it. If it can cause such trouble to humans, think about cats. They are more sensitive. So, don’t let your cat even put their paws on the concrete. Provide them with food and water in a proper shady area.
4. Fleas And Ticks
Summer season is accompanied by the not just beautiful sun but also icky parasites, fleas, and ticks. Make sure to use preventive measures to protect your cat from any infections. Flea and tick infestations can prove to be very harmful for your cat.
5. Chemicals
Maintaining your lawn or garden is essential in such scorching heat. Plants also need plenty of water and chemicals to sustain themselves. Hence, if you use pesticides and fertilizers in the garden then make sure your cat does not lick the ground area as it is toxic for her health. Don’t allow your cat in areas which have been fertilized.
6. Barbecues
Cookouts and barbecues are a great option for all to hang out and eat food together in the open. Even cats get delighted with the smell and the gathering around the barbecue. But, don’t let your cat be very near to the hot grill. To keep your cat fit avoid feeding the grilled barbecue feast to her as this might lead to serious health repercussions.
7. Poolside And Lakeside Water
Taking your cat to a pool or a lakeside should be down with great supervision. Some cats can swim but be very careful and keep a close watch on them.
Be a cool parent and balance the fun and safety in your cat. It’s not as troublesome as it might seem. Just some safety measures and a heads-up to your intelligent cat will work out.
