Dogs Throwing Up- What Could Be The Causes?

VOMITING DOG

Vomiting is rather commonly seen in dogs one may think. And it is justified as canines throw up from time to time. However, that may not be vomiting, but could be regurgitation. The difference between vomiting and regurgitation is that vomiting is a forceful ejection of the contents in stomach or intestine (caused due to several reasons) while regurgitation is an effortless ejection of ingested food from the esophagus. So what you may be witnessing could be regurgitation for most of the times. Apparently, there are different aspects that cause vomiting in dogs. Let’s see which they are!

The possible causes of vomiting in canines

  1. Motion Sickness

This is the most likely reason for your pooch vomiting while on a move. Just like humans, it is common for dogs to get sick while travelling. Car journeys may become very unpleasant for dogs if they are not used to it. If your pet vomits every time you travel with him then ask your vet to prescribe a medication to prevent the vomiting.

  1. Stomach or digestive issues

Sudden vomiting in dogs and not regurgitation may be the sign of stomach issues. Try to recall any garbage exploring incidence or intake of the food that your pooch shouldn’t have had in the recent past. If yes, then your pooch may be going through gastritis. The other reasons of vomiting may be ingestion of toxins such as chocolates, hairballs, etc, gulping food too fast and exercising or running immediately after eating. If vomiting persists and your pooch throws up as soon as he eats something then veterinary examination becomes necessary.

  1. Chronic diseases

It is suggested not to overlook frequent vomiting incidences as there may be some underlying health issue that could be the reason. Consult your vet immediately in such cases. Following are some of the chronic diseases that may induce vomiting in pets:

  • Diabetes Mellitus
  • Kidney failure
  • Stomach or intestinal cancer
  • Inner ear diseases
  • Pancreatitis
  • Addison’s disease
  • Liver failure
  • Parasitic infestation

To conclude, we must put aside our human nature of assumptions and analyze the reasons for vomiting in canines as there may be chronic disease involved. It is always better to consult the vet and have a detailed session on your pet’s vomiting issues.
